Laura's Sketch 55

Another quick post today - mainly because I probably need to disconnect this computer due to thunderstorms. We are not in the path of hurricane Alex but will be getting alot of rain and wind. Anytime we have storms though I disconnect the computer - since the last 2 computers I had got fried by lightening!!

The layout for this card is from 2Sketches4You. The first attempt at piercing on this looked like I was very drunk or something. LOL! Just don't think I was paying any attention. But a quick "re-do" made it look a little better.

Birthday Buttons

Just a very quick post here. I wanted to play along with SCS Clean and Simple 73. We are to use the colors bashful blue, pumpkin pie, and certainly celery (or similar). I didn't have a button in certainly celery so I substituted old olive. The buttons (and the mats) have been popped up on dimensionals. The sentiment is from CTMH (Happy Birthday). This is very clean and simple, yet I think it turned out cute. I do like those colors together.

Butterfly Wings

Hopefully you can at least get a little "feel" for this card! I was in a hurry this morning when I took the picture (needed to get it done so I could go shopping!!!) and it just didn't come out very good. So I apologize for that. Now it's too late to take another photo as it's rainy outside. The REALLY bad news though is that I went by Michaels today and could not find a single thing I wanted to buy and they had a ton of stuff for like 40 % off! Oh well, I guess I just wasn't in the mood for shopping otherwise I would have probably done serious damage! Now, the good news is that my pocketbook dearly LOVES me today!!

Anyway, back to the card.........The layout is from Clean and Simple Stamping FTL 96. This is actually BEAUTIFUL paper......very glitterly (is that a word) and just so pretty. It's from Paper Studio Poteeka Souffle. The sentiment is from Butterfly Wings (CTMH). On the inside it says:
"It goes where is pleases and pleases where it goes". Very nice sentiment I think. This will be the anniversary for my sister in law and her husband - 51 years!!!!

Blue and Yellow

This is for the CAS-tastic Wednesday Challenge. This week the challenge is to use the colors blue, yellow and a neutral. Sounds easy enough - however, it took me all day long to get this one like I wanted it! Some days are like that though.

The flowers were stamped (Vintage Vogue-SU), cut out, and then (a few) popped up in Ballet Blue, Bashful Blue and Summer Sun. The sentiment was stamped in Ballet Blue using Warm Words - also from SU. Of course I had no ribbon to match this, so I used some white satin type ribbon and colored it with my SU markers. Thank you Patty and Jaydee for this fantastic tip! The layout I used was from Clean and Simple Stamping from several weeks ago.

Clean and Simple

I like to try different types of projects and cards, yet I usually go back to my old stand-by of the Clean and Simple style. Maybe that also says something about me as a person as well. I'm not a "frilly" person by any means so I usually struggle with that type of card. I would just have to say I'm probably conservative......kinda like, well.......clean and simple!

I really liked this card when I finished it - that doesn't always happen to me! The paper I used was Pretty in Pink, Lovely Lilac, White and the Playful Pink Paper Pack from MS. I also used a MS punch on this. Of course the butterflies were die cut with the Beautiful Wings die and then I added a couple of rhinestones to their bodies to kinda give them some "oomph". I stamped the sentiment (Whimsical Words -SU) in Versamart and then Lovely Lilac and then heat embossed using the Iridescent Ice embossing powder. And last but not least - I added the ribbon and the bow using my trusty Bow Easy! The layout is from - well - Clean and Simple Stamping!

Another Father's Day Card

This is another Father's Day Card I made - a very CAS card! I used the Mint Motif (Very Square) stamp set (check this set out over at i {heart} papers) and the sentiment is from Hero Arts. As I said it is VERY clean and simple. I simply stamped the squares and then cut them out. The square in Wild Wasabi and the Baja Breeze one were stitched (zig-zag) around the edges. The Tangerine Tango square was "popped" up with dimensionals. I had originally stamped the sentiment directly on the card - but then after sewing I noticed that there was some type of smudge right over the sentiment! UGH! Don't you just hate it when something like that happens!! So anyway, I just stamped it again on white CS, matted it in the Tangerine Tango, and put it over the original sentiment.

This is, again, for the CAS-tastic Wednesday challenge and also for the CAS challenge at Ink Spots and Gum Drops blog.
For both of these the theme was Father's Day.

Thanks so much for all the happy comments on the previous post (Rambo). He was VERY excited since so many thought him to be so handsome! LOL.

Also - an update on the green beans I've been canning..........I finally quit canning at 62 jars!! Enough is enough already. We had a "pick and pull" ( that is when you stand there, pull up the plant, pick the beans off it, and throw the plants in a pile) and we are now officially out of the bean business! YES! The tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, pepper, and okra haven't hit yet - but they will.............

Rambo

No card post today. I thought I'd show you a photograph of our little Doxie, Rambo. Now, is that not the cutest thing you've seen today? Rambo was given to me as a birthday present last year by a very dear friend of mine - so he's a little over a year old.

The main reason I'm showing you his picture is because he's very lucky to be alive - for several reasons. First of all: Several months ago he bit into an electrical cord (that was connected). I heard him "yelp" and grabbed a hold of him (NOT a good idea). We finally got him "disconnected" and he was pretty much a goner. My husband, Jim, started beating on his chest and then gave him mouth to mouth resuscitation!!! I kid you not! Anyway, after about 5 or 10 minutes, he started blinking his eyes and trying to move (Rambo, not Jim)!! We took him to the vet the next morning and he checked out good except that the cord burned his mouth pretty bad. Ninety five dollars later ( I KNEW I should have become a vet!) we were out of the vet's office and he said that the mouth to mouth probably saved him! He didn't even have any heart damage - there again, Rambo, not Jim. LOL

The second reason he's still alive happened this week.........that'll be another story coming your way soon.

Anyway, I thought you may like to see a photo of the youngest member of the family.

Happy Father's Day

I think a long time ago it was probably standard to give dad a tie for his birthday, Father's Day, Christmas, or whatever........Don't know if that's so true any more. Now they are probably getting the latest technical gadget!!

I CASEd this from an old Card Creations book. Thought they were cute and so appropriate for Father's Day.

This is for the CAS-tastic Challenge.

Thanks for stopping by ..................and I hope all the Dad's out there have a wonderful day tomorrow.

Favorite Color

We all have a favorite color, I'm sure - and mine just happens to be blue! So when I saw this challenge at Always Playing With Paper, I knew I HAD to play along. This is only their 2nd challenge - but it's a fantastic one with the challenge being to use the colors Brilliant Blue, Bashful Blue, Old Olive, and white (or similar colors).

As instructed I used the colors listed for the challenge. I embossed the Bashful Blue with my Swiss Dots Embossing folder. The image is stamped with my markers using the Watercolor Trio set (2 different images). The sentiment is from Lots of Thoughts (also SU). The small butterfly was cut with the Beautiful Wings die. I attempted to somewhat pleat the Old Olive ribbon and thought it came out ok. The image is framed using a rectangle Nestabilities, sponged around the white with the Brilliant Blue, and then popped up on dimensionals.

Forever Friends

Usually when you hear this term, it's "friends forever" not "forever friends". I really think it sounds pretty good either way you put it!

This layout is from Tami at Team Gingerbread blog (go check out her site - it's wonderful). The layout was actually for a group challenge blog - but is no longer there. I really like the layout though and will be using it again, I'm sure. Thanks Tami!

The paper I used is Old Olive, Very Vanilla, and My Minds Eye DP. I used the Vintage Vogue stamp set and did a little masking. Of course, the beige bow was made using the Bow-Easy.

Another Challenge

This is for another Clean and Simple challenge - and was a very easy one for me for whatever reason. The challenge is from Ink Spots and Gum Drops blog. If you have time, please go check this out. This is such a fun blog with some awesome projects on it. The challenge was to CASE something from the new SU catalog or the old catty or the Mini. Since I'm not a SU demonstrator I don't have the new catalog yet, so I CASEd this from the Summer Mini catalog (page 11).

I used Tempting Turquoise, Wild Wasabi, YoYo yellow, Pixie Pink, and white paper. The sentiment is from Heard from the Heart (SU). The little butterflies were cut using the Beautiful Wings die.

Lollipop Button

Believe it or not, this "lollipop" is a button! Every time I've looked at this button all I could see was a LOLLIPOP! So when the challenge over that CAS-tastic appeared (to use a button), I knew what I wanted to do. The stick part of this actually was on a lollipop - that I just had to eat!! I mean, how else was I going to get that little stick? LOL! The sentiment is Yummy from SU. I used Pixie Pink and some DP from Paper Studio. The layout is the FTL Sketch from Clean and Simple this week.

It was very hard to get a good picture of this - first of all, it was too cloudy. Then, too windy. FINALLY this morning, there was no wind and the sun was out. I know I probably took 10 pictures and none turned out very good. But, anyway....

A Day Late And A Dollar Short

Sometimes I try SO hard - and yet, it just does not work!!! This little image was a freebie from Designed 2 Delight. It came on the first of the month and I had until June 10th to make my card and post it. Ok, not a problem there. I got the card made about 4 days ago and there it sat! So this morning I decided that I'd better get that posted before it was too late..........well, guess what? Today is the 11th and the cut off was yesterday........................UGH! I wasn't the "dollar short" but definitely the "day late"! Anyway, here's the card............

I used paper from Playful Pink paper pack by Martha Stewart with the sentiment from Well Scripted by SU and of course the image from Designed 2 Delight. I stamped the image once, and then stamped it again, cut it out, and popped it up on the first image. The coloring was completed using Copic and SU markers. I used the Label 1 Nestie also.

Paper Players Challenge #1

My husband and I dearly LOVE to fish! I mean, we would fish every day of the week if we could (I usually catch the bigger one however)! Last year, he had some major health problems and we just haven't gotten to go fishing - in like a year! It appears that he may be having more health problems now and since we can't physically GO fishing, I thought I'd make him this little card just to let him know that we WILL be able to go again soon.

This is for Paper Players Challenge #1. Go check out their site, HERE. The theme is to create something masculine so I think this is a good choice (even though it can be for a female too!).

The paper I used was Ballet Blue (oh, I'm going to miss this one!), Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, White and Pawisitively from SU. The image is a digital stamp from Hambo and the sentiment "Fishing" is from a CTMH set called Hook, Line, and Sinker. I covered the "water" with Liquid Glass (CTMH) and colored the image with Copics, SU Markers, and chalk. The fish brads are some I had in my stash and just cannot remember where I got them.

Hello Daisy

I had some scrap pieces of paper sitting on my desk and this is what became of them! It's a very simple card, but I like the clean lines of it.

I used the Daisies 2 die from SU. The paper is Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla, and a SU patterned paper. The sentiment is from the Gracious Greetings set from CTMH. I used the Leafy Branch embossing folder on the vanilla piece but it's rather had to see it in the photo. The "ribbon" that runs through the button is actually a very thin strip of the patterned paper.

Gator Greetings

This is more of a "Grateful Gator" instead of a "Gator Greetings"........the reason being: Ever since this little digi came out from Chicken Girl Design I've wanted it. I finally got the rest of my order organized and shipped it off (by the click of a mouse) to i {heart} papers! Yipee. Now keep in mind I had never ordered a digi image before. I have gotten the freebies from various sites but never ordered one. To make a very long story short - I downloaded the digi FOUR TIMES - and all four times, I kept getting this black blob! OK, the only thing I knew to do was to wait until one of my "computer age children" showed up and saved me. Well, lo and behold, after sitting there for a few minutes I received an e-mail from Kate, the owner of i {heart} papers, wanting to know if I needed some help!!! Did I ever. She was so gracious, patient, and helpful and went out of her way to get this old computer dummy on the right track. What a wonderful lady and a wonderful company.................So, thanks again, Kate, and TA DA...the gator...........

I used Old Olive, Ballet Blue, Pumpkin Pie, White, and Pawisitively DP (SU). I colored Mr. Gator with Copics (yes, I'm STILL working on this) and SU markers. The bow was made with my trusty Bow Easy (also from i {heart} papers)! This little image will get alot of use with all the grand children's birthdays!

Oh, yes, the sketch is from Sweet Stop Sketches 59! I kept trying to put something in the empty space over on the right - above the bow - and just couldn't get anything to look right....So, I decided to leave it empty......I'll have to work on that one and see how I can re-do this when I use this wonderful sketch again. Maybe I'll leave the sentiment off from under the gator and put one in that spot.

Black, White, and Yellow

The challenge over at Cas-tastic Wedneday is to create a clean and simple project with the sentiment as the main focus. The sentiment I used is Elegant Thank You (SU). I don't think I've ever made a card using black and white and then added yellow to it. I would normally add some red, but yellow just seemed the route to go on this one - and I like how it turned out.

The sentiment is "popped up" on dimensionals on the Scallop Edge Medallion. The directions to make the medallion can be found on the Resources page at SCS. I actually made two of the medallions, but cut the "frame" off the second one and stamped the sentiment there.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.....

A Little Less Green

Time to tone down that green! Every time I look at my previous post I KNOW why I hadn't used that Green Galore before! It just kinda "jumps" out at you. In the future I think I'll just use it as like an accent piece or something.

This one is using Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue. I have no idea why I decided to use those two colors but after coloring the frog in green and the flower in blue with my markers I just felt it needed those two colors - and then was glad I did, as it matches the ribbon perfectly. The stamps I used are from the Unfrogettable set (SU). The ribbon is actually some Christmas ribbon that I got at Michaels last year - but it just never looked like Christmas to me. The sketch is from the Clean and Simple Stamping, FTL92.

Where is all this GREEN coming from!!!! I'm not even a real big fan of alot of green, yet here I have another post using green on a card. I really think it's because I've canned SO MANY green beans that I have "green" on my mind! LOL! I just got though canning another 11 jars this morning - and will have to pick them again tomorrow! I think that makes 42 jars so far! At least the tomatoes, okra, cucumber, and squash haven't hit good yet........when they do, then I just get super busy again.......

Go For The Green!

Is there a little bit of green on this card or what!!! I NEVER use this color and since I think it's one of the retiring colors from SU I thought I would use some. It's VERY green (actually it's called Green Galore). It does have a definite "cheerful" feel to it anyway.

This is a CAS card for Friday Clean and Simple Challenge #2 over at the Ink Spots and Gum Drops blog. The challenge is to make it CAS using a wheel. I only have a couple of wheels and thought I'd use this cupcake one from SU for the card. The sentiment is from the Party Hearty set - also from SU. I used Liquid Glass (CTMH) and Creative Inspirations Paint on the cupcakes. The paint REALLY gives them glisten and shine. I also used some Stickles for the little confetti but am not sure I really like that look.

Thanks for stopping by............
